Our community’s objective is to reduce the noise impact of the range and to ensure that the appropriate environmental and safety measures are being taken by the City of New Bedford in order to protect our neighborhood. We support individuals’ right to use the range, provided it is done so in a manner that is consistent with all rules and regulations, as well as neighbors’ concerns.
More specifically, we believe that the noise will be greatly mitigated by ceasing to rent the facility out to police departments beyond Dartmouth and New Bedford and by implementing sound mitigating measures. We also believe it is important for their to be limitations to the days and hours that police training can be conducted.
With regard to environmental measures, we believe that the City of New Bedford should demonstrate on an ongoing basis that they meet all EPA guidelines for shooting ranges.
